Most buildings are well maintained at ground level or in areas that people can see easily. But when the issue is out of sight, or in a hard-to-reach place, it’s much more difficult to notice and rectify. Manually accessing roofs and facades can be costly and dangerous for employees and contractors. That’s where drone technology is leading the way in capturing areas that are traditionally difficult to reach. By combining drone image capture with Skand’s powerful AI-assisted technology, your building’s roof and facade can be digitised so you can easily identify defects and report on them safely.
AI is short for Artificial Intelligence. It is the process of using computers that have been trained to do a particular type of task. In Skand’s case that is machine learning for the identification of defects on a building envelope.
Using artificial intelligence, we train our machine to identify defects in imagery in a scalable way. We’ve built our building envelope AI model using hundreds of thousands of images and while it’s not yet perfect, the technology is improving every day. Once the data is run through our AI defect engine, we pass the results onto our trained inspection staff. Our inspectors look for errors and inconsistencies in the defects identified. This provides a ‘feedback loop’ which improves the AI engine with each image that’s analysed.
